I guess if one tired of the Mountie bashing in the badge thread, one could read the WTA bashing comments in the Times article above. dizzy.gif

Whoever voted that none of them are worthy needs to be slapped upside the head. They're not all the best of the best but a few of these are spectacular. 3 for me, I assume I should exclude ones I've only done part of.

The Lakeshore Trail? Really? I think that's a boring hike. Cascade Pass is a good choice.

Well, I think what Ms. Daubert intends is to provide a variety of choices in several parts of the state for people of different abilities. Chelan Lakeshore is good early season, and great for kids. Its unique in the boat ride, the side-trips, wide variety of vegetation including desert and alpine as well as forest recovering from fire. Karen gets out a lot. She's a climber, and several on this site have climbed with her and know her abilities and prowess. The last few years she has catching up on "regular-joe" hikes (my term, not hers), much of her time having been spent on routes to climbs.

Except the article is titled "Top 10 hikes around Washington". Kind of funny to see Little Bandera mentioned in the top 10. Probably wouldn't even make my top 10 for the I-90 corridor.

lol... I thought the same thing! Some of the listed hikes are decent, while some others left me scratching head thinking, "Really?!"

That is a good point. Some of the choices seem odd to some of us... but you do not want a "Top 10" list for Washington to be too Puget-centric. There are A LOT of great places to visit in Washington.

Come on guys.... it was a fluff piece in the Seattle Times, not a "best hikes" list in "Backpacker" magazine. Target audience is completely different and is "Puget centric", and if it included stuff like this one people would think some reporter at the Times had run off the rails. Stop bashin' Daubert already. Take it for what it is: a "best of" list for the unwashed cotton-wearing masses.

I've been doing it twice that long and I still don't have a clue.
