My mom and her siblings and several of my cousins went to Thurston HS in Springfield, OR, site of one of the very first school shootings. Today the college my brother went to--Seattle Pacific--joined the continuously growing list. This **** keeps hitting too close to home.

I don't think they allow gun talk here.
There is one guy who posts here who actually organized a pro gun rally on the anniversary of the Sandy Hook slaughter. No kidding. The solution is always more guns, always, everywhere.
There is another guy who used to post about President Johnson's wife being responsible for the deaths of soldiers in Viet Nam, somehow because she allegedly had investments in certain defense contractors, or something.
There was one thread about the "leave no trace" concept, and there was a surprising backlash against that simple idea. Believe it or not. I guess we don't want socialists to tell us to not kill plants or leave trash in the backcountry.
Once you get past hiking, there is a lot of nuttery here that is best left undisturbed.

I knew this thread could devolve quickly, although it's gone without comment for several days. I'm not even putting out an opinion one way or another about gun rights or gun control. I was just feeling really sad that tragedy struck the SPU campus. In addition to my brother I've had a bunch of friends over the years that are SPU alums.

We're both SPU alums, as are many of our friends. And we have friends on faculty and staff. Getting that news was like taking a sucker punch. I just started shaking...too close to home, on that little campus. Lord have mercy.

A high school in Troutdale, OR (just outside Portland) this morning. They're coming about once a week now.

There were several of us having lunch with a new co-worker from the UK. His first question was, "How many guns do you have in your homes?"
