I noticed this on a tree in my front yard this weekend. Looks kind of nasty. Anybody know what this is?
Thanks!

Definitely could be. There's lots of it spread around the tree. I'm really wondering if it's something I should worry about on this tree or if I should worry about it spreading. I don't really care about the tree that I found it on, but it's right next to my big dogwood that I really like.

All of my serviceberries' (Amelanchier alnifolia) young fruits have been covered by a bright orange powdery mildew/rust/blight/smut. People will be talking of the Great Juneberry Famine of 2014 in hushed, awestricken tones. Never seen the like. Not your sturff but same color.

Some people have better things to do with their lives than walking the dog. Some don't.

Tent caterpillar egg case - it's the way they survive over winter. It's a big year for them.

It's called cedar-apple or juniper apple or Juniper- hawthorne rust. It is a fungus. Wild roses get it too. On the wild junipers it is the most bizarre looking tubular, gelatinous structure... I have seen the orange rust on the saskatoons and roses before but last year we saw the juniper form while on a hike. Came home and looked it up. Gymnosporangium juniperi-virginianae. Like an alien life form!

Frosty, Lucky enough to live where it snows in the winter! smile.gif
