Just read some FB postings about Karen Sykes being lost on Mt. Rainier? Anyone have information? edit: I'm just praying for a good outcome, she was separated from her friend on the Owyhigh Lakes trail yesterday...searchers are looking for her.

Don't know identity, but there is a search up there. Multiple county SAR teams involved. Also an air search. Last update I had was about two hours ago and search was still in progress at the time.

I've confirmed it is Karen. I just spoke to somebody who was on the hike with her. Hoping for good news.

Karen is experienced and savy, so I'm hoping she's just staying put waiting for help. Good vibes to Karen and SAR.

I was there a week or so ago, fog made route finding difficult at times. Hoping for good news soon!

Just to clarify, while their destination was Owyhigh Lakes, it was not via the Owyhigh Lakes trail. It was via Deer Falls from SR 123. The trail/area has been closed for containment while SAR operations are in place. The search will resume in the morning.

I am concerned for Karen's well being in this situation too. I only know her through her trip reports, columns and presence on this forum. May she be as warm and comfortable as possible until she is found. ~z

I'm sending my hopes and wishes for her to spend a warm and comfortable night in her emergency gear, and to be found in good shape tomorrow. She's an experienced hiker and it's a reasonable thing to hope for.

I know all the well wishes are appreciated. I too am holding out hope that she is found early tomorrow in good condition. Understand, tonight will actually be her second night out.
