I guess I don't really like to think in terms of international boundaries..
Been across the border dozens of times - always treated the guards with respect, and always had it returned to me, even when I was in fact being pretty darn suspicious.. I worked 3rd shift in Bellingham for a few years, and frequently found myself in my beater car, bearded, and poorly dressed, heading through Sumas at 2AM headed for some hike in Canada. I was searched several times, but never turned away.
I will admit though, the Alaska borders are waaay more laid back than the Western Washington ones. There aren't any population centers nearby on either side, and I think the guards are just happy to have someone to talk to.
