Always a good trip to get out with Mark (Leafguy) and Steve. We went in from the Top Lake TH up the Little Wenatchee. Just over 5 miles and we were at Top Lake. Mark showed off his usual fishing prowess, quickly landing a monster and gently releasing it, while Steve and I were skunked. rolleyes.gif We headed on over a mile to Pear Lake, and no luck here either, but I did manage a quick dip in the lake and the meadow was superb for lounging. Back to Top for more lounging and then the short death climb up Shoofly and the loooong walk through superb old growth. Luckily, Mark had a surprise for us back at the truck for some quick rehydration. drink.gif About 14 miles on the day... Thanks for the trip, guys. up.gif

Nice area. How were the bugs? Sounds like Mark is healed up and back on the trail.

Beautiful green! This has been on my list for two reasons. One as a stop while I hike some of the PCT along that stretch. Also as a nostalgia trip, below is a photo of my wife getting into our Cannondale tent at Pear Lake back in 1979.

Any hammock trees a round Pear Lake or should I take a tent.

Nice report. Of the lakes up there Peach is the best. Its just not automatic how to get to it.

- Bugs were only mildly annoying. - Lots of good spots for a hammock, Lloyd.
- As you can see, Mark is healed up just fine!

A high lake and a fly rod have great healing powers hockeygrin.gif So does a Whistling Pig at the end of the trail! pig.gif

OK, what's all that line in the water? Last time I went fly fishing I remember just touching a lever sticking out of my reel and all that slack line just got sucked up into the spool like Spaghetti off your fork in a romantic movie.

Whats the deal with Little Wen and White river road? When I left Chiwawa river road sunday it looked like they had closed north shore road to all but local traffic?

You must've had one of those Perrine reels (there were a few other makes too) that had a spring type of mechanism. I think they are illegal now. As far as fly reels go, 99% of the time, they are just line holders when trout fishing. I can control the fish much better manually. I laugh when I see people using some shiny reel that makes enough noise to wake the dead and costs more than $50. BTW - we only caught one fish all day.

shakehead.gif It's been 10 years since I did that trip with you and I am having trouble finding that picture of the rainbow that jumped out of the water and was arced in a complete circle head to tail in the air. That is the Top Lake experience your seeking. bug.gif

Kite- I think the road to Top Lake TH is 6701 and the TH elevation is around 3000'. Road 400 goes to Heather Lake TH so it is not that one. I am not sure where you are seeing road 500. I can't find it on the official Wenatchee National Forest map.
