I am looking for a decent pair of light weight footware to wear at camp so I can take off my mountaineering boots and let me feet recover a little. For me, they can't have side vents (like Crocs) 'cause I don't want pebbles, mud, and or snow getting in that way. Some breathablilty would be nice, but instead of vents, I'd rather have the uppers made of a breathable fabric. And, I might also use these for stream crossings in cases where we have to wade right though. So, fairly quick drying would be great (i.e., no leather or cotton) Can anyone make some recommendations? thanks! P.

I would recommend very lightweight jogging shoes, Adidas, Asics, ect.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

I used to carry light weight slippers with a rubber sole and cloth top, padabouts biggrin.gif

I use an old, battered pair of Merrell Foot Gloves, less than a pound and great for crossing streams.

I like the look of the new Vibram Furoshiki shoes. No idea of weight or price, should be at the Outdoor Summer show about to start. Should be somewhat light and probably very comfortable because you slip your foot on the sole then wrap the upper around it.

I used to haul a pair of these to wear around camp. pro: cheap fairly lightweight comfortable. just enough "shoe" for the job. doesn't take up a whole lot of space in the pack. cheap con: soaks up water in morning wet grass short lifespan. stitching starts coming apart after a few months. less than zero traction on smooth surfaces. leaves orange marks on linoleum floors I wear Tevas now.

I hike in light weight quick drying trail running shoes. For a foot breather around camp i wear teva flip flops. Not what you are looking for but the combo works great for me. for what you are looking for i'd second what has been said and get some ultra light trail running shoes, maybe a size or two too big (for that end of the day comfort and breathing room).

Look for something sold as a "water shoe". The term covers designs ranging from sandals to lace-ups to neoprene socks with soles.

We use Vivobarefoot Ulta Pure UL shoes most of the time. They are also great for stream crossings because they do not hold water, and they pack very small. You can use the insoles from your boots to make them more walkable. (I have walked 8 miles of easy trail with a full pack in them with my boot insoles.) Crocs are heavier and much more bulky. Running shoes are heavier and take too long to dry (although running shoes hike better so not a bad choice if you have no stream crossings).

I've been running and hiking in Inov8 Trailroc 235s. They have very breathable mesh uppers, and drain well if you get them wet. 8 to 10 ounces depending on your shoe size.

If you are short on money, snoop around the "seasonal aisle" of drug stores like Bartell's for the latest batch of water shoes shipped in from China. Some are lightweight, and they don't cost very much.

Yes, according to the description on the site. From the description of the Ultra:
Quote:
With a removeable inner sock you decide how to wear the Ultra, depending on the terrain and conditions or what mood you're in!
From the description of the Ultra Pure:
Quote:
Like the Ultra but without the removable sock, the Ultra Pure makes things simple.
