Seattle Times article
Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

Cool article. Most people would refer to this as the Enchanted Chalet, with the Quinalt Lodge being down on the lake.

Per the reader's comment in the article, the bank has eroded considerably.

Sorry for the...um... harshment, but this just went from "free"
Quote: | Have met with park staff twice in the last two months on how to move the chalet with the least impact. The moving method in the EA is a collaboration of factors that we have had to work through to be safe and efficient in use of time on site. Due to the countless number of people who want to participate in saving EVC, I have volunteered my services to relocate the chalet for FREE using a volunteer crew of five people plus myself. This will take three days when on site and then we pack up camp and go home with the chalet out of danger. |
to a $124,000 contract. I find that ...mildly curious.
Er, six people for 3 days... ahem...
Sorry, but... just curious... is it all insurance costs?

I'm guessing that part of the $124K is to get the volunteer's equipment into and out of the site...

Didn't read the article but the smallest Heli capable of lifting anything runs about $1100.00 an hour and you pay to fly it there.
Hopefully somebody tapes the whole process and puts it on Youtube.

Presumably more talent is required than the average bubba would deliver. Plus the chopper, transportation, insurance, etc., etc.
Sounds more than reasonable to me.

According to the Times article, the Park Service is providing the helicopter, so that doesn't appear to be part of the contract. We already paid for it.
Perhaps the mules have just gotten really, really expensive.

All the stock, all the volunteers, all the "volunteers" with structure moving experience, all the food, staging, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Perhaps I need to re-think my understanding of words like "free" and "volunteer".
As long as there was a fair and open bidding process, I guess we don't need to feel like we've been hoodwinked , or that we're being totally swindled out of a piddly extra $100,000 or so...
Still, that money could have been used to beef up security out on highway 101- tanks, roadblocks, artillery crews...

Seems like the news report must have something wrong -- or they are rolling the operational costs into this overall price.
You have an excellent concern, though. As described the price is way too high. Yet if I think about "tricky moving job", the number seems within reason. So am betting on/hoping for a reporting error.

I can understand the alarm at the price but if you think the price is too high...
What do you think it should cost and how did you arrive at that price?
