Hi,
A group of us got the permit earlier this year to backpacking the Enchantment Lake Wilderness for 4 nights, between 9/28 to 10/2. None of us has ever been there but has read many of trip reports of the area, try to get as much information as we could to prepare for this enchanting trip. We plan to hike in from Staurt TH, and out to Snow Lake TH.
We still have few questions, hopefully we can get clarification and advice from members here who have been there before.
- Do we need bear canister or any container to store our food? Either to prevent bears, rodent or mountain goats.
- Would a non-free standing tent be a problem on most camp site? "Previously impacted area" sound like the soil may be too hard to stack a tent?
- If we happened to camp at a site that's not near an outhouse, should #2 be buried? or blue-bag carry out?
- Would a passenger car be sufficient for the road into Stuart TH?
Anything else we should be aware of?
Thanks in advance!

camped in the enchantments a while ago. I believe there are some sites with dirt for your tent. A car will have no trouble making it to Stuart TH. We did not use blue bags or bear canisters--hung our food from trees, and used the privies. Have a great trip, and be prepared for cold nights. Do climb Little Annapurna, and maybe Enchantment Peak and Dragontail too if you like scrambling.

Thanks for the responses.
Does anyone know if we'd need any food container to protect our food for, critters or goats etc?
Thanks!

there are critters, so if you dont hang your food you will need something else. There are trees.

No problem finding sites where we were able to stake our tents. There are a lot of toilets out there, we always used them. Goats left our food alone (they just want to drink pee), but chipmunks/mice (especially at Colchuck) were more interested. We just hung food bags, no canisters needed.

Except where there aren't! There are cliffs you can scramble up (easily) and hang your food from them.

The goats are terrible up there and will eat your pack straps, so hang your packs too or at the very least put them inside a heavyweight plastic bag.
