I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I read the directions, really! But when I hit the pics button, it tells me I have no pictures. (I just uploaded them to flickr) What am I missing?

Never mind, I just figured it out. I had my nwhikers username instead of my flicker username. Now I'm in the in crowd--woo hoo! (except I'm not a very good photographer) Just posted my reflection pics on the reflection thread--what fun!

- position your cursor where you want the image to display in your post
- just above where you post a message, click on the IMG button, paste the URL of the image, then OK
- that's it!
- to add an image description, use the following format:=some description |
Just a note (for me mostly ) for photobucket:
in photobucket click on the DIRECT url then go to your post on NWHikers and click the IMG button and paste.

Yep, that's it for sure. I've run into the same issue, especially since many people and websites use https instead of the old http.
Just yesterday I was trying to upload a photo in my post Historic photos of Mount Baker National Forest
The source was:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Baker_National_Forest#mediaviewer/File:A_Rustic_Open_Front_Shelter_at_French_Creek_Forest_Camp,_Mount_Baker_National_Forest,_1936._-_NARA_-_299080.jpg
I got so frustrated with trying to upload it that I got on the wikipedia IRC help chat and no one knew what the problem was. Thought I was stupid or something.
Finally I noticed the "s". Cut it out, and the photo loaded.
Tom, is there some way for you to allow https as well as http?

See here for an explanation: http://ryanmo.co/2013/11/03/dropboxsharedlinks/
Basically you need to change www.dropbox to dl.dropboxusercontent
Alternatively, append ?dl=1 to your link - this may have some undesirable side effects since this is the dropbox download link
note what happens if you go to the download link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2whlrdkcsxuc2m2/IMG_0914.jpg?dl=1
changed prefix to dl.dropboxusercontent also works with ?dl=1 added

Is there a trick to using Google+? Image is public and I can see it fine with the url I used, but it didn't show up in my post. Uploaded to Imgur and it worked fine.

Fustrated.. Trying to set up from Picasa, what user name am I supposed to use my NW Hikers or Picasa, I just opened it with my google account so I don't have a username in picasa? Not sure why this site we have to go to a separate site, every forum I am on can download directly to the site even PDXHIKERS. Just frustrated I can't get this to work is all. : (

To get the image URL make sure you are right clicking on the image at Google + then choose "copy image URL" (Chrome) or "Copy Image Location" (Firefox). In Internet Explorer you need to right lick on the image and choose "Properties", then highlight and copy the address. For other browsers it should be similar to one of the above.
For example, this is the URL I got when I did that for your link:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-UBhL-yDlamc/VDQeCnjiqfI/AAAAAAAAC9U/0Ww1XV3-lOM/w856-h685-no/2014-10-06-14-08-16-267.jpg
Also, note that google+ adjusted the size of that image to 856 wide and 685 tall to fit on my screen (see portion highlighted in red). When you get the image URL at google+ it will be a different size (customized to fit on your screen). Because of this you will want to change the w and h parameters in the url so that it will be a more friendly size for everyone when you post it here. I would suggest changing it to w800 (800 wide for landscape images) or h800 (800 high for vertical images). For example:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-UBhL-yDlamc/VDQeCnjiqfI/AAAAAAAAC9U/0Ww1XV3-lOM/w800/2014-10-06-14-08-16-267.jpg
800 wide wrapped in IMG tags
