Here's a job opening that might be of interest to backpackers/outdoor adventurers: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/trp/4712243138.html The job is delivery driver for a bakery-- not outdoors related. But the schedule is 7-days-on/7-days-off (thursday thru wednesday)... which means you could go on a week-long journey into the wilderness, twice a month! So, it's a great job for an avid hiker/mountaineer/kayaker/packrafter/etc. It's not for everyone, though. The hours are a bit strange and a bit long, typically starting around 2AM and finishing around noon. And since it involves driving, you have to be fully functional throughout those hours. Not a hard job, but fairly high level of responsibility, since a mishap on the road can get someone killed. No CDL required, it's just a small transit van. And you see some pretty interesting things, driving around the city at 3am.

Great! I'm typing out my resignation letter for my $40 an hour job for that $12 an hour job! clown.gif

I know right, and these Boeing people typically spend it on stupid things, like boob jobs, strippers, hammocks, electric bicycles, and multiple backpacks.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

I did this 20 years ago. It's harder than it sounds. BTW HS, $12 is a minimum. Not everybody is making that Boeing money. clown.gif

They prefer you be a college graduate. Yup, that student loan was worth it. rolleyes.gif

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Wasn't going to say anything, but man, the condescending tones here surprise me. Notice nobody asked how much money you make dude. Lets hope the next big move by boeing doesn't have you eating those words shakehead.gif

Seriously? To drive a bread truck? Why? LOL! I used to drive forklift on a loading dock 1am - 9am. What an awful schedule. It was M-F though. 7 days on/7 days off would make it a lot more livable but you'd constantly be readjusting your sleep schedule.

I've lived in a constant state of circadian desynchronosis for the past 15 years. Shift work ain't so bad.

My schedule is the weirdest of all. I work 4pm - 4am everyday for awhile (like 2-4 weeks). Then I'll get 2-4 weeks off. Plus, on the days I work, I basically sleep the other 12 hours in the trailor on-site. At least I only have to drive the 1,000 miles each way to the worksite once every once-in-a-while

The Pacific coast to the Great Plains = my playground!!! SummitPost Profile See my website at: http://www.lemkeclimbs.com

Personally, I like my weird hours, especially the early AM. It keeps you in the "alpine start" mindset: ready for anything. Driving late at night is peaceful and beautiful, and at 3am the city is its own kind of wilderness. I often see coyotes. True, it's not a lot of money. But I've had jobs that paid twice as much, and this job is better, because time is worth a lot more than money. When you're dying and looking back at your life, which will seem more meaningful: the money you made, or the adventures you've experienced?

Hear ye, hear ye. I'll often leave for the mountains, or get up when I'm there as early as 7:00 am!
