Thanks so much for your feedback Jim ... you know how much I admire your work so your comments mean a lot to me. Yeah ... no clouds make it especially tough down there. We had several clear days, but typically some cloud action would develop around sunset. Your Goblin Valley is especially awesome ... great work! When we were at Goblin SP a couple of years ago, it was very windy, plus we also weren't too inspired so we didn't spend much time there. Instead, we did the Little Wild Horse - Bell Canyons loop. This was shot there -- IMO slots are also a challenge in B & W. Anyhow, then that evening we took refuge in the car from the wind and sat out on the road as the sun set and a T-storm developed in the distance. The color was pretty spectacular so we went crazy as well.

I guess it's been awhile since I've posted here ... Robert retired in Sept so we did a few really cool trips ... our 5-day Teton backpack was extra special ... we had a little bit of everything there -- sun, wind, rain, hail and T-storms ... but that's what made it fun.

Then we were in the Eastern Sierras ... just a car camp testing out the campground life with our new big tent. The jury is still out on that one ... Anyhow, it was so colorful with the aspens turning (like the cottonwoods in Capitol Reef) that I didn't convert much to B &W.

We also hit the Bristle Cone Forest when it had just been snowing for a few days ... plus it started up while we were there. Again I thought it would be esp ez to convert these since it was mostly monotone anyhow. So, I went crazy there. It was just so inspiring to be among these ancients. Unfortunately, when I got to processing it ended up being very difficult because of the flat light. This is the only one I tried ... but the color shots added just enough to make them way more interesting so I'm very happy with them.

I take it from the year that those are old slides that you scanned Tim - nice views of a classic WA mountain up.gif Another nice set silence. I love the Sierra and plan to get back down there myself this winter for some ski touring around Yosemite. I'm also hoping to hit the east side Bristlecones when we continue down to Death Valley. Shooting these beautiful old trees was my goal in Great Basin NP at the start of our fall trip. I used focus stacking to good effect on a number of shots. Desert Trees:

Thx Jim, love your tree images, esp the 2nd Upper Muley Twist .... you've inspired me to go back and take another look at my bristle cone shots .. We wanted to do a narrows while at CR, but were told that most had waist high water (cold water) that required either wading or swimming. The one in the Upper Muley Twist was the only dry canyon, but it sounded like a lot of work for just a short stretch ... so we hiked up to the Navajo Knobs instead. Did you guys do the narrows and the loop? That's a long day.

3 new ones shot at the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains this past Sept after a snow storm. The first was shot in the Schulman Grove, below snowline at the time, and the 2nd and 3rd up at the Patriarch Grove where it was snowing heavily when we first arrived, but eventually let up. By the time we got back down to the VIC we were in whiteout conditions and it had snowed again there. It was a magical day to say the least!

Yeh, Jim, I liked the first two Upper Muley Twist shots the best, especially the second. It takes a different kind of eye to know what will look best in B&W. The second Muley Twist shot wouldn't be that hot in color but it's very nice as you shot it. I've probably done Upper Muley Twist 4-5 times, most recently last spring. There are some very nice colors on that hike, especially the Water Pocket fold.
