Seems like a CT pit or even a hasty pit would have revealed that shallow weak layer pretty easily.

It's shocking how rapidly the crack propagates at the outset. One instant clean snow, the next a crack appears and shoots ahead and out of sight, then the entire mass breaks loose.

I read that this guy works in mountain rescue. One would think that he must be well versed in potential avalanche terrain.

Conditions on a slope can change within just a couple hundred feet. Unless a pit was dug right where he intended to board, it could have presented misleading information. This I learned the hard way.

Thats the point, you dig a pit where your going to ski. I didn't see one in the clip. Even a hasty pit with his glove would have likely given him some useful information. Heck even a ski cut seems like it would have set the slope off. Or maybe he did all that?

That looked like an obviously wind-loaded slope and was predictable before he even went across it.
