I've got to think that unless your name is Ansel Adams or Elliott Porter (in which case your photos wouldn't be on Flickr) what one would gain from photo sales would amount to peanuts.
Well apparently the photographer gets 51% of the net profit, however I would be surprised if Yahoo actually specify their costs, so I would certainly not expect to see any sort of meaningful return on print sales. If they're doing digital sales (as other companies like 500px are doing), that will be an even worse return as well. Make no mistake about it, Yahoo would not be offering this if they didn't expect to make a substantial amount of money from it.

I found this pretty ironic given that all of the changes made by Yahoo to Flickr in the last year or two have been to chase after non-professional photographers.

Believe me, I don't doubt that Yahoo would make good money, I only suggest that individual photographers probably won't see much. I'd think $1500 would be highly unusual.
