I found these at my local Bartell's for a mere .79 cents http://idahoan.com/products/premium-hash-browns/ so I thought I would give them a try. After reconstituting in boiling water, they were passable. But after frying in a little oil (according to directions), they were downright tasty. The 3 oz package made 2 cups of hash browns which was more than I could eat. It seems they have them on Amazon in bulk too. ~Slim

Haven't tried those yet. And I would have to agree that frying them would probably taste better. I like crispy hash browns not 'soggy' ones. I tend to like the Loaded mashed potatoes. http://idahoan.dev.foerstel.com/products/loaded-baked-flavored-mashed-potatoes/

A while back Costco ( they still may) had ones by Golden Grill in a small milk like carton that were great. Browned up real nice with a little oil. Years ago they had them in a 5lb carton (we repackaged them) but discontinued them. What ever you do don't get the Betty Crocker ones they turn to mush. I have even tried to dehydrate the frozen ones, before Costco came out again with the Golden Grill ones. It didn't work out very well, quite mushy May have to find those Idahoan brand ones and try them.

Hungry Jack also makes the dehydrated hashbrowns that are similar to the Costco brand hashbrowns. I've eaten them after re-hydrating them while on the trail as well as lightly frying them while at home.

Use them in soups/chowders. They work quite well.

I love 'em! Rehydrate, fry, throw some cheese and a 3 oz. cup of Ricos Salsa on top and ... WOW you got some tasty stuff. I eat them in the evening after a hard day or when anticipating a hard following day. Rumi
