Edward and I had not done a trip in a while. I originally had all weekend for an overnighter but realized on Saturday morning that I had a birthday party to attend on Saturday afternoon/evening. (Good thing I remembered in time!)
Only having time for a one-day outing, Edward and I agreed on Griffin Mountain... a seldom visited peak southwest of Mount Rainier and High Rock. This mountain is one of the top 200 most prominent peaks in Washington. The views from the summit ridge and summit were spectacular on a blue sky day like today. The sun felt fairly warm for early May but enjoyable all the same. I liked the scrambling and geology of the volcanic rock along the upper ridge. We even took some time to explore the east side of the peak. All in all, it was a good day.
MEETING THE GRIFFIN:
Nice pics and trip!
Do you mind sharing the info on how to get there, trailhead, etc... and details on the approach?
Looks like part of the approach is on an old logging road maybe???
Thanks!

Most of the approach is via forest roads. I believe the best road access would be courteous of the MTTA but we did not fully explore that option.

The peak on left? Adams in back.
Whalehead Ridge.
Cool. Thanks. I have previously been on Purcell Mountain, which neighbors Whalehead Ridge, but I did not realize that the peak in this photo is the same pointed peak near Purcell.
