I couldn't handle it, going to work with all the nice weather. So i took a vacation day.
All pumped up for an extra day off, i work up unusually early for me 7:00am. Threw a my gear in the pack, and headed for Persis. The plan was to camp on the summit. I should know my self better.
On the way i stopped for breakfast at the Sultan Bakery. I was told the Train wreck is tasty. So i ordered one. When it arrived i discovered it tasted great....except one of them could feed a small village. Or a NWhikers Social full of gravitationally enhanced hikers like me. I had to unbutton my pants and loosen my belt just to put a dent in that. And so on the verge of food coma i was off to the Persis trail head.
When i arrived there was a couple just headed up the trail head. We said our brief hello's and they went on ahead.
On my way up i could have sworn i heard a log truck. Out of curiosity i decided to wait and see if i could spot it.

There you go. Be warned there is Log Truck traffic on Proctor Creek road.
I climbed some more, its a steep trail, but the grade relents as it reaches near the top of the ridge.

Then it travel's through open forest and meadows. Just before the summit is a few tarns.

The views from the summit are amazing.

Ok so. I'm on the summit. Solo. Grab my book read a paragraph, and have to stop to put on my bug bucket. Ever try to read through a bug bucket.
There was a cloud of tiny man eating no-seeums. Its hot. I could crawl into my bivy, to get away from the bugs. But did i mention it was hot?
Time for a swim.
Water's just right.
Before i knew it after two dips too cool off, i was hiking back down.

I have been waiting for a Persis trip report, now that the gate is (supposedly) opened to the public. Thanks!

Crappy.....but no worse than it has been. Prolly don't want to drive something low clearance up there.

I had heard the gate wasn't dependably open- and that one could potentially get trapped in there?
Anyone out there know the current status?

There was no one shooting. There was very little traffic on the road. Most of it was an occasional log truck.
