What is your flickr ID?

In your privacy settings at flickr, make sure "Hide your stuff from public searches" and "Hide your profile from public searches" are both set to no:

http://www.flickr.com/account/privacy/

Also, don't make your photos private.  If you want to do that you'll need to embed them manually via the IMG tag.

I uploaded a photo to http://i.picresize.com, resized it, and saved it, and copied the URL http://i.picresize.com/UZ1. And tried to include it in a post here. I clicked on URL and pasted the url above, and ... nothing appeared in the preview except my text title.

When that did not work, I resized it a second time and that also did not work. What is supposed to display when using URL?

I also did this using IMG. Same result.

Works for me.  You need to right click on the image and get the URL, or just copy and paste the BBCode direct link.  That said, I don't know how permanent the images are on picresize so probably not a good option for posting pics here.

OK Thanks, but it only worked for me if I clicked on the picresize link and then opened it (to get the url you have above) then used IMG in the NWHikers compose page to add it.

Picresize says it's urls for photos are permanent. Let's see...

At my post yesterday for POTD, East and West Twin Lakes, I subsequently edited the East photo and replaced it in Flickr. (One of the advantages of a pro account.)
Since the URL changes with a replaced photo in Flickr, I thought the original would have disappeared here, and I would have to upload the replaced photo. Instead, the original photo remains on the main POTD page, and the replacement is on the specific page for my post.
You can leave it like that, it's just curious.

This is a test.  This is only a test.  If this had been an actual duck there would be much quacking.

Whoa!  That's a big duck!  How come the site isn't thumbnailing this image like it does most?

If you wrap an image with a URL we assume you want to display the image "as is" with clicks on the image going to the URL.  If you want it to display a smaller thumbnail and have the link go to the URL then you need to provide the thumbnail and wrap it with the URL as follows:

Code:
[url=http://your.url][img]http://your.thumbnail[/img][/url]

Interesting.  I didn't think you wanted people hogging up all the real estate with big pictures, which is why this site has the auto thumbnailing.

Also interesting that the example you posted is larger than the regular thumbnails.

In any case, thanks for the explanation.
