Grubbed at Twisp Rv Pub the other night. I got the pasta with the Madiera cream sauce and gotta give that dish a pass. First thing I ever had there that was not super yummy.
Antlers for breakfast: insanely slow, horrid coffee. It is like they just don't care. Tomorrow we will either hit the Hoot Owl or the natural foods store right downtown, which apparently has a resto or something inside. Will report back.

Spent the weekend in Marblemount doing day hikes
The Eatery takes the prize. Reasonable prices for solid good food. Had fried chicken dinner a nice veg salad wine and bread pudding for under 20 $
Of course cinnamon rolls and fruit for breakfast, cannot be beat.
Mundaine coffee, get Americano or Late instead.
Cue Car, flavorful meat but only in sandwich form, no ribs and chicken.
Buffalo Run, overpriced waaaaay overpriced. Trout was OK certainly not to the tune of $30 for entree, salad and glass of wine. The Red Blend at The Eatery was far better, and 3$ less.

You're playing russian roulette; skating on thin ice, playing with fire, etc. when you declare The Eatery to be the prizewinner. Them's bold words - too bold, in this case. I like the food alright, sure. Excellent chicken pot pie. But sometimes you're lucky to get waited on there.
Did you try The Diner?* That's the place in Marblemount.
*you get either boring names (Good Food, The Diner, The Eatery), or wierdo names (like Buffalo Run) in Marblemount (isn't Good Food actually Ma Greene's or something?)

Good Food is still Good Food
The Diner appears to be a well kept secret. I did not notice it around the bend until Sunday and I was already committed to fried chicken. BBQ and Fried chicken are my post-hiking cravings. And real banana ice-cream, or a real banana shake.
One can only eat so many meals in 3 days and I am a Ho for cinnamon rolls that left friday saturday and sunday night . Breakfast was spoken for.
I got prompt, attentive service at the eatery at all times and somewhat casual at B Run. The Cue Car was a party of one so no issues with that.
Sad not to have ribs though

The Diner has pretty good breakfasts; never had anything else there. Good Food was so dirty and nasty the only time I went there that I shan't return. I think their very name is false advertising. The Eatery? meh. Buffalo Run? Not great and way too pricey for what they serve.
On another note, I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life at the Mountain View Inn in Darrington a few weeks back. It took 45 minutes and multiple requests to get our drinks, then another 45 for the mediocre food to come out, one order at a time, for the 7 of us. Mrs. Polecat had chili which was obviously from a can and was microwave-burned, but her food took the longest. In the middle of this, our waitress went to the store to get cheese but didn't tell anyone! Every other table was having the same surreal experience; I saw an elderly gentleman ask for a napkin 3 times before finally giving up, and I ended up getting utensils and napkins for a booth of 4 that ordered pie, because I felt sorry for them. Guess what; the pie showed up but nothing with which to eat it!
Eventually a different waitress came by and asked if she could get us anything else. I replied, "Yes, the last 2 hours of my life back!".

Amen. I haven't bothered to stop in the last several years. It was gross, even by my standards. If I say it's dirty, it's dirty. I looked to see if they had a health permit and there was one hanging over the cash register. Surprised the hell out of me.
Too bad about the Big D. I've had mostly good service there. I'm very forgiving, though, so I'm not a good judge of service for the most part. If I say it's bad, it's bad.

I am doing the Warrior Dash in Portland early Sunday morning. My favorite route northbound( 507 to Puyallup from Centralia) I take the backroad to bypass the Olympia to Federal Way parking lot on I-5
perhaps I should swing up to the Carbonado to treat myself to some meat.

I've got 3 alternating favorites. Wally's in Buckley, Black Angus for the cheesy garlic bread (I start having dreams about that stuff the last few days of any trip more than 5 days long...), and if I happen to be over on that side, a place called the Flying Tomato on the way back from the Longmire entrance. I can't remember exactly where it is, unfortunately, I just watch for it in a strip mall on the right side of the road as I start running into traffic lights again. It's a little too noisy, but boy is the food good!

Mtn View in Robe (Verlot) is closed, looks like its out of bizness. Too bad. I mean the food wasn't 4-star or anything, but it sure had a nice owner and the place was downright homey.

On a road trip to OR this weekend. We were ready for some breakfast just North of Vancouver and took a chance on the "Country Cafe" because they had their name on one of those blue freeway "Food" signs.
Exit 14 off I-5, right on the East side of the freeway.
Great breakfast! I had the "meaty mash up" or whatever it was called. Consisted of sausage, ham, bacon all diced up and mixed with cheese and hash browns in a big pile and covered with country gravy. Fabulous.
One of our party had the eggs benedict. Very well done, the hollandaise sauce was yummy.
Then there was the "Incredible Country Biscuit." At least I think that's what it was called. A giant buttermilk biscuit with chicken fried chicken patty, two eggs, two strips of bacon and country gravy inside it.
Top off the yummy, filling, generously portioned food with friendly service and reasonable prices and you have a great roadside diner to note if you happen to be down that way.
