suuure.gif That's a scrumptious pic! I'll have to add that place as a waypoint. Reminds me of another good BBQ restaurant... The Ranch House BBQ on Hwy 101 (aka Hwy 12) between McCleary and Olympia. It's located on the south side of the road, just west of the Black Hills summit. Nestled in the trees - it's hard to see, but you can't miss the cars in the parking lot. A blurb from the net:
Quote:
Pitmaster and Founder Amy Anderson and her team have taken home grand championships at the Washington, California, Arizona, and Nevada State BBQ Championships.

When I'm out near Granite Falls I totaly enjoy the food at the Bodacious BBQ. Two times a month (on Sundays) they have smoked prime rib. Their pork ribs are the kind that melt in your mouth and the prime rib is unlike any you've had before. Check it out if you don't believe me. Be warned tho, you'll be hooked forever.
Prime rib from the Bodacious BBQ.

Mike's cut (12oz.) minus salad.
Awesome! I've driven by the place several times wanting to stop but they're always closed (late hiker). Glad to hear somebody is a fan.

This is actually a pre-hike stop. From Portland to Mt Hood there is a place near Welches called The Territory. The Farmer's Omelette, bigger than a baby's arm and tastes better too. And most of all they cover it in gravy. Probably one of my favorite breakfasts of all time. The coffee is so-so though.

Speaking of the Hood to Portland route, anybody been in the ZigZag Inn for food lately? It's been years, but man did I love those burgers for apres-ski on the way home from Meadows.

What? Rotten Ralph's CLOSED? I've always wanted to try that place. I guess I'll have to add that to the greatest regrets of my life list...so sad.

The best burger in the world is sold at the first place you come to after leaving the trail! No more pints though... too fattening.

Grub after trails
After days on the Wonderland Trail: "The Kettle" 1 block off SR164 in Enumclaw! Great breakfast or lunch and portions to fix a famished backpacker.

I hear the mountains calling.

Gordy's in Port Angeles. The Pizza's awesome. Best post-backpack grub ever is the Country Fried Chicken sub.

Gordys blows, I have no idea why people in P.A. eat there. Best pizza in Port Angeles is either at Bella Italia or at Wildfire. If you want the best burger and fries go to Brockelsbys (on 5th kittie-corner from Subway near the courthouse) but don't be tempted by the Gyros. The best diner food and breakfast is at The Cornerhouse. If you want something fast and healthy on your way to the trail, the best kept secret for lunch in town is the deli case at The Country Aire. Glorious bagel sandwiches are made from Olympic Bagel Co. bagels but you get more meat and veggies than you would on a bagel sandwich made at Olympic Bagel Co. and they're cheaper at The Country Aire. The best coffee/ice cream/shakes are at The itty Bitty Buzz across the street. The Plunkin Shack on the marina is a great, unpretentious place to grab a hot sandwich for lunch. If you want Asian food before or after an Olympic hike, you should only bother with Dynasty and the Thai restaurant on the west side (next to Wildfire on 8th). I can't remember the name but it puts Thai Peppers to shame and it has a great atmosphere and a huge UV fish tank. Sequim is the land of bad food and Forks is even worse. I think we all know to stick with the coffee shop on that one.

Hwy 2, besides those mentioned, Dan's in Sultan is pretty good and is a sit down that serves beer, wine, pizza, italian, and burgers. Is the favorite place for a friend of mine, I've tried it once and it was good. 40 of us mounties hit it after a field trip a few weeks ago, and their service was still good (they had advance warning) I-90. Agree with NBBAG. I'm still looking for tips after trips up the Mountain Loop Highway, not impressed with the mountain view... Leavenworth has a good brew pub on the very west end of the main street, 2 stories, generaly crowded with people not interested in leavenworth's version of toursity (bad) bavarian food. It also has very cute wait staff.

This is off topic--but if Octavius or others associated with the clubs could give us a heads up when these large group things are happening and where, that would be much appreciated. Many of us here go out of our way to avoid those places on those weekends. Thanks!!

I almost didn't mention the mounties thing because I thought that response might come up... ;-) If only it were as easy as "letting you know", but there are a lot of clubs (Mountaineers, WAC, BOALPS, Mazamas, UW clubs, etc) and each has many activity groups (climbers, scramblers, hikers, back country skiers, snowshoers...) Sorry. Would be cool if the forest service had a centralized database and required people to register if they are going out in larger groups. I know what you mean, I often feel guilty in a party of 8 or more as we loudly herd ourselves up a trail to some peak we are planning to summit, and disturb campers or other small party hikers. Even on hikes I find some of the people in the group to be really loud and crass. Don't know what to say. Such is life within 120 miles of a large urban center.

So, say, if you knew that there were going to be 100 Mountaineers camping in the Icicle, or perhaps 12 Mountaineers at XX backcountry destination on a particular weekend, are you saying that you would be unwilling to share this information with us? uhh.gif
