I have a family member who has a difficult time eating solid foods, they have tried a couple of protein powder mixes and they find them to taste nasty and I agree. Due to their problem they have also suffered from iron deficiency and have had iron infusion performed twice in attempt to alleviate the problem. Anyone have recommendations on some that might be more palatable?

When my mom was in the end stages of Parkinson's and could no longer chew, we fed her he usual foods, but pureed in a powerful blender (Vitamix) This helped for a few months, but she was still wasting away.

not sure if this will help, but I have been using Bobs Red Mill Whey Protein powder, I tried about half dozed other brands that the post transplant dietician recommended, most of them tasted like poo.

I will try that Kite, I think I have seen it at Fred Meyer.

I appreciate all the responses. Just to clarify, the family member has a problem chewing most foods due to ill fitting dentures, despite spending probably 20k for a few sets and re-fittings that have not worked. In retrospect, they should have bit the bullet and spend 30-40k on implants. I have a couple of friend who did, if I ever have to get dentures, I will probably take my first vaca to Mexico and get them for maybe 10k.

CJ - Most protein powders aren't intended to be consumed alone - is your relative making "concoctions" with them in a good blender? Adding fruit, a liquid sweetener (honey, maple syrup, agave)? I liked using carob powder with a sweetener a good change from time to time (kinda like chocolate, but "different"). The liquid protein supplements being marketed are OK in a pinch, but there's so much sugar in them they're ,unhealthy, IMO.

Yes, they typically mix it with something and blend it. I will try some of the items that others have suggested and see if we can come up with a palatable mix. I am heading over there soon so we will see.

I drink the Simple Truth vanilla whey powder (found it at Fred Meyer). Mixed with whole milk it's really tasty - almost like a thin milkshake. Agreed with the comment above that blending is crucial - otherwise you get clumps of powder, which is pretty gross. Hope you're able to find a solution!

Syntrax Nectar. Great protein powder that mixes easily with just water. I like Lemonade flavor personally. Available on amazon. A bit pricy compared with others, but i think its worth it for the easy taste.
