On Tuesday I will be climbing Spectacle Buttes (Holden Quad). Our approach will either be via Phelps Creek to LeRoy Creek or via the Carne Mtn High Route over to Maude. Has anyone been on the High Route who could offer information on how feasible that is to get to Ice Lakes? Is the route easy to follow? We plan on dropping down to the lakes and summiting from the west.
I have accessed Ice Lakes from the Leroy Creek high route. Its easy to follow the logical wide-open approach above Leroy basin. The approach is steep and gravelly and you cross a steep snow field decending to the lakes. It's all non-technical and a geat hoof.
