Most disappointing was a few years ago. Lk Isabell. I was the tag along with a small group who touted this as a peacful woodsy scenic lake. Not. Slogging through downpour, mud and roots on half trail half ATV mud pits on no real trail to an mid elevation ordinary tree ringed lake. Trash, broken glass in blackened firerings and beer cans all over at the lake's outlet 'camp'. Don't forget the Sultan locals in super 4x4 jeeps tearing up that "trail". Small arms fire and motercycle buzzing chaos filling the air. I will not do this one again. On the flipside...

So true. I have done a few of those traditional overnighters as epic 25 miler dayhikes - just do the boring not too interesting long valley approach in the dark wink.gif Hop on up Necklace Valley at o-dark thirty and have the upper basin during the daylight. Sometimes even the typical view destination 'means to an end' type dayhikes reach a whole new perspecitve with a combination of off the norm timeframe and season. I recall a trip up Bean Crk. ala headlamp and clambering up Earl Pk in the predawn just as sunrise cast upon a lenticular capped Stuart. Mt Dickerman - has the traffic volume of Si on any sunny summer wkend. However, go there on a late in the day winter trip and you are rewarded with everyone passing YOU going down, alpenglow on the peaks and the upteen repetative switchbacks in the dark smile.gif http://www.wta.org/~wta/cgi-bin/wtaweb.pl?7+df+2005022706+full+trails As for Si? Last time I was up there was two years ago on the coldest day of winter in that cold snap, 3 cars in lot, and 12 degrees on the haystack with crisp Rainier view all to my puffy down jacket encased self up.gif

I nominate Humpback Mtn (east of McClellan Butte). Heavily forested ridgerun, too short, and marginal views from the summit. TNAB will NOT be back.

Cheers, Mesahchie Mark

Lorraine Lake - A long haul into an unappealing lake. There might be a few views on the ridge if it wasn't raining.

hmmmm Good question uhh.gif I don't usually get disappointed cause every place I have been has its own charm of some sort. But if I where to pick one cause the views where not good it would be Hamilton Mt.in the Gorge. Nice hike up but the top is all scrub that blocks the views for the most part. You get better views on the way up than on top. This is a great water fall hike though. smile.gif

Crowell Ridge (Sullivan Mt. Lookout end) in the Salmo Priest Wilderness. Crappy views (clearcuts) and trail (rocky and dusty). Plus the road in was bad enough that only something exceptional would make it worth driving.

Others who have made it to the meadows have said this is a very worthwhile hike. When I went it was hot , steep and only a so so forest hike.

I think this also wins the award for proximity of a worst hike to a best hike.

Knowing that it missed the cut on 'The 700 Best Lakes in the ALW' list dramatically reduced initial expectations and resulted in overall ambivalence.

That's because you're probably the only one who thought it might be a good idea to go to the top. tongue.gif

hiking the high divide trail in ONP in complete fog was pretty dissapointing. still a great hike, but frustrating having 10-20 foot visibility where you should get mind blowing views.

Kendall Katwalk. It wasn't necessarily bad, but the Katwalk was tiny. From pictures I had seen I was expecting a much longer "katwalk". Nice views, though. Just a bit disappointing.
