I binge watched most of the first season too, but haven't gotten around to the last few episodes or season two (I watched it on Amazon Prime, I don't get actual television).

Hey Nac, have you heard of the series "Humans" on AMC (it's a British show). You might like that. It's about A.I./robots, exploring what consciousness means.

Got around to seeing some award contenders on redbox tonight. Manchester by the Sea was an ok drama but I felt I had seen it before up.gif up.gif . Was pleasantly surprised by Hacksaw Ridge, was expecting another Gibson gore fest. He outdid himself in presenting a tale on conviction and duty. The characters were multidimensional and seemed authentic. up.gif up.gif up.gif up.gif .

Watched "Queen of Katwe". Story of a young Ugandan girl from the slums near Kampala who learns the game of chess and goes on to become a chess-master and Ugandan and African Champion. A true story, very nicely told....

Hidden Figures is another terrific movie and should get some Academy Award nods. It tells the story of three African American woman who were very significant in the brain trust of NASA in the early days of the US space program. In the process, it touches on racism in the south even within the culture of NASA in a factual way. The movie is quite dramatic in the touch and go launches of early spaceflight and stirs a patriotic sense in the depiction of these efforts. One of the woman was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was honored with the naming of a present day NASA building. up.gif up.gif up.gif up.gif
I 100% agree very enjoyable movie -- at least for folks old enough to remember watching the "Space Race" on black and white TVs with Rabbit Ears! I watched Hidden Figures at the Magic Johnson 8 Theater in Harlem -- this added a dimension to the film -- most memorable audience response was for the Dorothy Vaughan character's line "Mam I know you believe that to be true" -- "You tell her girl!"

Tonight it was Arrival. Cerebral Scifi film of the Solaris, Contact, and 2001 variety. Aliens similar to Vonnegut Tralfamadorians. Somewhat confusing timeline but that was intentional. Well worth seeing up.gif up.gif up.gif so it goes

Passengers. I really enjoyed this one. up.gif

Watched "Snowden" last night. Directed by Oliver Stone, so you have to take it with a grain of salt. I approached it as a work of fiction that was based on actual people and at least some actual events. I'm a fan of Joseph Gordon Levitt, he was excellent as usual. Overall I enjoyed it, works as a slow burn thriller.

Black Mirror is another good BBC series on Netflix.

Stone admitted in an interview that he liked Snowden, and his slant in the movie was to that end! Figures. down.gif

"The Take" was enjoyable. Fast paced action thriller set in Paris. Idris Elba is a bad ass CIA agent stationed there. There's a bombing, then a big city wide conspiracy. Don't think about it too much and enjoy the 90 minute running time.

Everyone has a slant when it comes to describing interesting people. At least Oliver has the integrity to admit it. The movie was an attempt at showing it from Snowden's perspective and why he felt he had to tell the world what was going on. Sure it could have been a more diverse perspective in terms of showing the damages to the US governments reputation and how that can have negative impacts. It's up to us to carefully examine the implications of global surveillance, and from my point of view this is what Snowden was hoping for.

If you care about what Snowdon did - and you should - and want to learn more - and you should - watch Citizenfour , an illuminating documentary about Snowdon by Laura Poitras. What I learned sent chills down my spine. Not because I was worried about my country's security, but because it made me concerned about threats to my own rights as citizen.

Certainly. That's just one of the things you get when gvt gets to big!
