Anyone read this book? Sounds interesting.
Olympic National Park Presents Special Program About Olympic Mountain Adventurer Minnie Peterson
Olympic National Park and the Northwest Interpretive Association will co-sponsor a special program about renowned Olympic Mountain packer and adventurer Minnie Peterson.
The free program is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6 at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center at 3002 Mount Angeles Road in Port Angeles. People are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is limited to about 70 persons in the visitor center auditorium.
The program will be presented by Glynda Peterson-Schaad and Gary Peterson, grandchildren of Minnie Peterson and co-authors of the recently published book, High Divide: Minnie Peterson’s Olympic Mountain Adventures.
Minnie Peterson was born in 1897 near Sekiu, Washington. After attending boarding school at the State College of Washington (now Washington State University), she returned to the Olympic Peninsula and became a well-known guide and packer into the Olympic Mountains.
Peterson-Schaad and Peterson will share stories and photographs of their grandmother’s adventurous life, including stories they heard her tell along with information and documents they learned later while researching their book.
Copies of High Divide: Minnie Peterson’s Olympic Mountain Adventures will be available for purchase and signing by the authors at the program. This book, along with all other Northwest Interpretive Association sales items, will be on sale for 15% off the regular price during the association’s annual holiday sale from Monday, December 5 through Monday, December 19, which includes this program event.
The Northwest Interpretive Association sells educational materials at national parks and forests throughout the Pacific Northwest, using proceeds to help support research and education in the parks and forests. NWIA bookstores are located in the Olympic National Park Visitor Center, the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center and the Forks Park and Forest Information Center.
For more information about this program and the Northwest Interpretive Association, people may call the park at 360-565-3195.

Now I know the derivation of the name of the free DNR campground on the Hoh road named "Minnie Peterson". Thanks.

Slugman,
the Peak 6 store just past the campground is on part of Minnie's homestead as is the house at the back of the field above the store and the next house that sits back from the road about 1/4 mile beyond the store. That house is the house Minnie lived in for many years. I had the honor to meet and talk with Minnie a few times in the early 80's. She was quite a woman.
The DNR campground was named in her honor.
