Crossing Stevens Pass late Sunday afternoon, I decided to see how far up Surprise Creek I could go without wallowing in snow. Trail and boardwalk-steps are in good shape. Trillium and buttercups in bloom, also many small snowmelt cascade rivulets to be seen along the way. Further on, started to run into spots of snow. When I got about a mile in, to the first overlook of Surprise Cr, the snow was getting thick and starting to cover most of the trail. Surprise Creek is over its banks and roaring at this point - impressive. Made this my turn-around point.
Saw no one on trail; no other cars at trailhead. I enjoy woods walking on dry days in May and November; the solitude is priceless.
