Cool website showing the weekly progress of clearing the North Cascades Highway. The pictures of the plows and howitzers at work are way cool. Looks like they're running a few weeks late this year due to the late season snow. They've got the road cleared but they're doing another avalanche assessment on May 6.

The North Cascades Highway will be open at 8:00 AM Tuesday May 7, 2002. Cold winter like weather has made the snow pack in the slide areas of Cutthroat Ridge and Liberty Bell rock hard and stable. Until the temperatures warm greatly the snow conditions allow the pass to be open. As temperatures moderate there may be requirements to temporarily close the pass to do controlled avalanche procedures.
