Has anyone out there ever done any winter hiking on Taylor Mountain, just southeast of Tiger Mtn? There's a lot of winter still ahead, and I was looking for some fresh territory. The GT map shows a lot of logging roads plus many small snippets of trail. Some questions: where's the logical trailhead; are there any particular highlights; can you get to the summit; and are there any concerns with getting too close to the Seattle watershed?
Take off on the road opposite the Tiger Mtn road at Tiger Summit. Either follow this road all the way up, or take the spur up the NW ridge (past the borrow pit--on USGS Hobart). This intersects an old RR grade which has a trail off it to the top. Or follow WH log roads to the powerline that goes to Brew Hill, then follow the ridge to the top. This is based on 11 year old experiences, and there's been a lot of trail building going on in here since.
