The ‘scrabbles are still lovely. My real motive was to get some good beta on other sites I want to get “in before the lock”. Both lakes are totally defrosted, and the route up from Upper Hardscrabble to the sadle has next to no snow on it. The back side down to Gold likely still has snow, and the slab walk up BS still has some snow on it.

Yep. Big Snow is still accessable as a day hike via the Dingford Creek trail head, but it is a longer haul.

I haven't been to the Hardscrabbles and Gold Lake since about 1970. We beat the brush up from Dorothy a couple times in the mid-1960s once the road up the Miller River was extended, but we found the trip over the pass above Upper Hardscrabble a "nicer" route. What are the conditions getting to the Hardscrabble Lakes like these days? I wanted to take my son up there in late August.

As long as you find the bootpath, it's a reasonable jaunt. Definitely worth a visit before they gate the road.

When and where will the road be gated?
