I don't see much logging on National Forest lands these days. I found a site which summarizes FY1996-2002 logging sales from National Forest. Note: The data represents logging sales in million board feet. Actual cutting of trees may not have occurred and the data does not indicate the number of trees or acres of forest impacted. For reference a standard 8 feet long 2"x 4" represents about 5 board feet.
Mt Baker-Snoq National Forest timber sales (in million board feet)
Note: pre 1974 sales data are for Mt Baker NF and does not include data from Snoq NF. The pre 1974 data are based in large part on Mt. Baker NF annual reports. I am looking for data to fill in the gaps for Mt. Baker NF and Snoq NF.
1913 2.4
1914 6.0
1915 8.0
1956 271
1958 206
1960 217
1961 205
1962 208
1963 212
1964 214
1966 184
1970 146
1965 149
1996 27.8
1997 11.9
1998 12.0
1999 0.2
2000 0.3
2001 8.3
2002 0.2
Current timber sales are a fraction (less than 1 percent) of historical timber sales. No wonder we don't see as many logging trucks in the woods as I remember dodging in the 1970s and 1980s.
1996-2002 data is from John Muir Project. The site has data from other national forests.
