It was a crystal clear day above 1,500 feet while fog shrouded the Puget Sound lowlands. Our route to the summit of Hidden Lake Peak (7,088') varied a little from the standard trail approach. Take the Sibley Creek Road to where there is a rock retaining wall on the right at 3,000' (the road ends at 3,400'). Just before getting to the wall is old growth. Go uphill through easy forest in an ESE direction along a subtle ridge (it is more apparent on a map). This route will connect with the trail at about 5,800' but will shave off perhaps 1+ mile of travel. It was quite weird to not encounter snow until above 4,000' on this route. This area has not gotten much precipitation during the winter. We tagged the true summit before heading over to the lookout. It was a little bit of heaven sitting in the warm lookout (60+ degrees inside) with incredible views of Eldorado and Johannesberg. We were the second party to sign the register this winter so not much traffic up there.
