I'm kind of in the middle, I guess. I like to push myself because part of the reason I'm out there is for the exercise and I don't get quite the necessary exhertion if I go slow. However, my fast is probably not anywhere near some of you guys' "fast".
The great thing is that we all have our pace, but I'm sure that were we to hike together we'd conform to eachother to stay together. I know I would. Getting out there, everytime I feel so fortunate. That feeling is only magnified if I can share that with other people!

Now dont make general statements about us "Power Hikers"...
I take a LOT of pictures, which means that Im looking. It's important to me to cover a lot of ground. It's because I like to SEE a lot of lakes and territory that I want to move fast and cover ground.
If I go with others then I adjust to their pace! I do not get impatient!
SO there you have it!

My husband reminded me that I don't hike slow all the time. Headed back to the car he says I'm like a horse headed to the barn. Just trying to get to my stash of bar-b-que Fritos and can of Whoop Ass.
I don't have to adjust my pace often since I only hike with my husband and he lets me lead to set the pace (or is it to kick steps in the snow?). Tried hiking with other groups early in our hiking and found out I don't play well with others. At least with my husband he knows he's in it "for better or worse" which we can sometimes cover both in a single hike.
Moderation if I'm hiking through nice country I hike more slowly. If i'm hiking through miles of forest to Blanca Lake, I see no reason to closely observe each tree, although I'm sure they are all special. Then when you get to the lake you have more time to relax or explore further.
But I think there are two types of hikers and of course some people are a bit of both--the destination hiker and the hiking for the sake of hiking hiker.
