Bush is asking Congress to make the fee demo permanent. Fees used to fight forest fires?

Grr. Doesn't surprise me. I think I'd be willing to pay if one pass could be valid at all state parks, recreation sites, national forests, national parks, and any other outdoor "attractions", but I have a feeling that would create a mess in determining who and where the money goes to. I'm glad to see Inslee against the bill. He gets my vote next time around!

I've liked Inslee since I moved here and happily voted for him in the last election. up.gif A good quote from the article: "The problem of course is that there's no longer any connection whatsoever between the fee you pay and the service you get. All you've really done is shifted to a regressive form of taxation"

Why are they proposing to misuse trailhead fees from backpackers? Because THEY CAN! All the more reason to boycott buying a trailparkpass. Do you think they will ever make this more equitable and start charging a per-foot RV surtax to camp? Maybe a fee for the amount of mud you haul out of the forest (or the amount of hydrocarbons left behind) on your ATV? It would be interesting indeed to know if studies have been conducted to determine the percentage of forest fires caused by backpackers versus those caused by lightning, ATVers, campers or disgruntled USFS employees.

A fuxk, why do I not give one?
