Another hiking-related organizational politics topic.
Recently I received the annual REI dividend/summary report/board member proxy/glossy catalog.
Usually I just throw out the proxy since there's not really much choice (vote for us! we nominated ourselves!). Is that the right thing to do?
I wish the candidate descriptions included a listing of things they didn't like about the REI and what direction they planned to take it as board member. From reading their business experience and other qualifications, I'm sure they are all capable and interested in the outdoors. It's just a question of whether they are going to take the co-op in the same direction that the voter wants it to go and the brochure doesn't seem to tell us much about their vision for the REI. What are they going to do that is different from the past board members? How do you keep it faithful to its roots?
I just pulled out my ballot. Let's see... there are three positions and three incumbents running. I predict....there will be no change in the makeup of the board.
Perhaps it's time to shake things up. I say we start a mail in campaign for BPJ!!! If he can't shake up the board then nobody can.
