As for dogs jumping up on you when they meet you on the trail....just step with a little pressure on one of their hind paws. They back off right away. However, it will probably be the most happy creature to see you all day. But as I have have mentioned before, are good at detecting fear.

It depends on the dog. It depends on the dog. What did I just say? The Used Dog went to the woods with me to work, he went to the woods with me to play he was a dog that didn't stray far. He did go galoomping after a bear and chased her maybe 100 yards and came galoomping right back. He never ran off so he was good to be off leash. That was his personality. I had an air head golden retriever who would run off, but would also come back. The same goes for the Demon Dog but the taser collar works well on her. The Demon Dog is very canny at finding her way back. Believe me, she's been well tested on that aspect. One knows one's own dogs and one figures out how to best handle them. I've had dogs all my life, maybe that helps.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human末animals and aliens are great possibilities

No problem with well behaved dogs on trails. Tip: Do not feed your dog right in the middle of the main destinations. Your meek and mild dog might suddenly turn aggressive to protect its feeding location. I was on the receiving end of that once when I arrived at Navaho Pass. If you are going to feed your dog on a hike, please first move away from areas where people congregate. Hey - remember the good old days when people congregated?

Yeah and some of them fell off cliffs and got lost. Keep people on leashes!

I agree with the legendary Harvey Manning - dogs disturb the wilderness experience. Leave them at home. if you must bring them on a trail that does not forbid dogs, keep it leashed. Just because you love your dog, doesn't mean everyone else does.

Dogs have been part of the ecosystem as long as humans have been. Dogs worked and were eaten.
Not much meat on the Demon dog though.

I just love these threads... LOL I take my dogs all kinds of places. They are well trained and don't jump on people or act aggressively. I tend to stick to trails that are somewhat less traveled - the crowded Westside I-90 trails are not something I ever do with them. There are plenty of places I can take them where they can run free and not bother other people. But, please continue whining about them and telling me how they should be leashed at all times. I will continue to ignore you.

And shock collars for people who bark too much perhaps?

I love how joseph wants to order people around. And he sets the standard that he must love what you do before he allows it. His existence disturbs my wilderness experience. His handlers should make him stay home.

My problem is stupid people who encourage dogs to jump up on them because they are too lazy to bend over to greet the dog. I never knew there were so many of these idiots until I got a smaller dog. They have wrecked my dog training.

Excuse me, but why is it on the other hiker to bend over and greet your dog? Its your responsibility to control your dog so it doesn't jump up on me.
