Went out with Hjt to Tubal Cain and Buckhorn Lake. Trail was in absolutely beautiful shape, not even one blowdown or other obstacle to speak of. Left about 10:00 AM and quickly discovered one minor mine shaft about 200 feet up the Tull Canyon tail. Investigated but it only went back about 100 feet. Walked and took a spur trail to what I assume was the main mine entrance. Water poured out of it as if a creek was running through it. Took a few pictures and continued on the main trail where it quickly turned sharply up a bare hillside. Great views of Iron Mountain and Buckhorn came into view as we walked to the spur trail to Buckhorn Lake. Took the up and down 1/2 mile spur to Buckhorn where we stopped and ate lunch. Buckhorn lake was interesting but not the most beautiful lake we had ever seen. Hjt mentioned it might be an interesting approach for a climb of Buckhorn Mt however..
Total mileage was 12 miles done in just over 5 1/2 hours (we kept a good pace!).
