Yes, great game, but however against the worst playoff team in the NFC, the Lions looked terrible.
A lot of positives, especially with Rawls and the running game (against a poor run defense) and Baldwin and Graham came alive in the 2nd half after zero combined receptions in the 1st half. Richardson is stepping up big in place of Lockette!
However, they continue to start slowly, especially the pass blocking, slow starts could spell disaster against the better teams, like Atalanta. Can't afford to start the game down say 14-0 like against Green Bay and have to play catch up.

I thought it was a decent game. Lions played awful and bailed us out with a bounty of dropped passes. Good thing they were able to run the ball as Wilson didn't seem to have much time to throw. Will be a tough game next week. Need to get some pressure on Ryan.

Yesterday, for the first time this year, it finally looked like the Seahawks team we've grown accustomed to seeing.
I'm really hoping that the running game wasn't a home-field advantage, one-time deal, which will evaporate next week on the road. Here's why it might not be: Less zone blocking, and more straight downhill, no frills stuff.

I would disagree. They certainly had a chance and I thought the game was quite winnable. The offensive line played well enough. Once they got behind Atlanta didn't have to respect the run. The defense gave up a lot of long drives this year even before ET got injured and that's what happened today. Just didn't feel good about their ability to stop other teams particularly against the pass. Atlanta played a mistake free game while the Seahawks did not. The penalties on the kickoffs really hurt them. The refs missed a few obvious calls early in the game including a helmet-to-helmet on Wilson when he slid on the first drive (any contact should have drawn a flag) and the first touchdown by the Falcons which was offensive pass interference. Catch the right breaks at the right time and I think it's a different game. I think they will come back strong next year.

I tend to agree Tom, however I think they were a bit over-matched. Ryan will likely be the league MVP and had the 4th highest QB rating of all time. I thought that we needed to put some pressure on him and they did not. You just can't give a QB of his caliber that much time to throw.
Plus, Atlanta's defense is much improved.
Wilson also had a sub-par year and I think a sub par game today. He overthrew two passes that likely would have resulted in TD's....and he overthrew a ton of balls throughout the regular season. The game and the season went pretty much as I expected.

It's hard to know how good Wilson is until they can protect him. He is running around like a chicken it's head cut off.

True ^ plus the defense hasn't been as good as usual this season, Cam and Earl being hurt had a big effect.

A couple interesting stats thrown up online
Quote: | ESPN Stats and Information
The Seahawks spend a league-low $6.5 million on their offensive line (cap value).
The Giants are 31st at $13.6 million.
The Seahawks entered today's game controlling the line of scrimmage on dropbacks 41% of the time -- worst in the NFL. Closest to the Seahawks: Rams, 45% |
So yes, the Seahawks had a chance, but you can't expect to catch lightning in a bottle every game. So in that regard, I think it was inevitable they were going to lose sooner than later.
IMO, the defense spent too much time on the field earlier in the season and got used up and injured, the offense couldn't control the LOS with enough consistency to keep drives alive, and I think RW had a shoulder/pec injury most of the season. He's missed many open throws, somewhat inexplicably, if he's not injured.

The first drive sure looked good... I was thinking yay they showed up.
Then the defense... then they sort of imploded on both sides of the field.
Unfortunately, the rest of the game kinda sucked. They just simply could not get it together on either side of the ball.
Very sad way to end the season!!

The game pretty much went as I expected, although I was hoping against hope for a close, exciting game, not.
They had the best rated QB in the league this year and probable league MVP and a much improved defense.

Strange game. Seattle imposed will on 1st drive, then wilted. As usual, running game is abandoned after a few stops so Falcon D-line can chase RW....nothing around the corners, no screens, no QB draws, no end arounds, no read options. Maybe Hawk coaches know what I don't; their O line can't run block.
Many folks insisted the only way to slow down/stop Ryan/Falcon O attack is to keep them on the sideline. Epic failure on that one.
Never been a Pete Carroll fan and he is always nonchalant about penalties. Tell us about those special team penalties, Pete.

Seattle had some clever blocking schemes (e.g., double teams, traps) on running plays on the opening drive then Atlanta figured them out and shut 'em down. That's football.

Pretty tough to adjust to life without Earl, one of the best team players ever who covers more ground faster than any player in the league. Falcons had lots of success over the middle. Early would have shut that down.
'Hawks had a great opening drive (see above), had some nice pass plays late when Falcons were playing them loose and RW had some nice plays from outside the pocket. Otherwise, the 'Hawks got their asses kicked. I saw, maybe, 3 pockets actually form for RW.
Common trait of the teams advancing in the playoffs: Superior O-lines. Jus' sayin'.
