Routes & Rocks in the Mt Challenger Quad online
This book is the original guide to the Northern and Southern Picket Ranges and outlying areas. The guide contains geologic references as well as alpine hiking routes.
I have the book on my website now as both pdfs and a compressed folder with a high resolution map and jpegs.
I encourage anyone that is familiar with this area to add comments with up to date information about each of the access routes. Each route is numerical so it is probably best to use the route number, then the description of the route changes or differences between now and then.

Tony, I'm having trouble getting to the page now, but last night when Tom posted his comment and I posted my on your site, the link was non-functional.
Have you fixed the link?

There was a problem this morning with the hosting server but it should all be fixed. If the page does not display, just check it again in a few minutes. This shouldn't be a problem after today.
Adobe Acrobat has problems displaying large files remotely so make sure to save the file to your computer rather than just simply clicking the link and expecting the popup acrobat to load the document.
And yes, this is legal. The copyright has expired and so rights are retained by the authors and the USGS. The rights are protected against commercial use however so republishing the content for profit is illegal unless approved again by the author and the USGS.

Thank you. Nicely done.
-------------- It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.
I had talked with Mr. Tabor about republishing his previous books. (By the way, he gives a VERY interesting talk). He said he'd been trying for a long time as he'd had many requests to do so. Said it was the publishers who refused to republish and he was upset about it. (I was too, as I have to hide those books when I use them for hiking as I understand some old copies have gone for the $100 + range on ebay. I'm sure he's happy that this is now being distributed as he seemed more interested in sharing the information than in earning a buck. Might be nice if there was a way for people to make a donation to his work for each download. This is the beauty of the internet....that people can publish info (ebooks) on the inet and make more money than through standard Pubs. For instance...it would probably be no big deal for you to donate $5 for this or his other book and yet it would probably be more than he would recieve from the publisher!

I am willing to also scan and republish the other Routes and Rocks (Hiker's guide to the North Cascades from Glacier Peak to Lake Chelan) if anyone has a good copy they would like to donate for a few weeks.
I scanned the Glacier Peak book 5 or 6 years ago for my own personal use. I've given away a handful of copies over the years. The cover and the big maps were serviceable but worn in the copy I scanned. If you want to go to the trouble of getting permision and doing the hosting, I'll give you the scans.
Mixed feelings about this for a variety of mixed reasons, but I understand the excitement about it.
For planning purposes, this is great, but there's nothing like the original book in hand. I have a 1st ed R$R and the R&R Challenger Quad; well worth the price, for me, a book whore.
Preproductions don't have the same oomph! about them, but they're better'n nothing.
