With the Snoq. Pass pks. in the clouds and fog as we drove through, Scott and I decided to go on to Easton and attempt to snowshoe/scramble up to Kachess Ridge #61 on the HC 100. We ended up leaving the Silver Ck. TH at 2,400 ft. around 8:30 am for the trek up the trail towards the basin between West Pk. and KR 5525. After the first mile or so around 3,600 we entered the Silver Ck. Valley with solid snow and put the snowshoes on here. Without a trail to follow, we just essentially followed along side Silver Ck northerly to a confluence with the West Pk. Ck. At this point we changed our bearing to NW for about a mile then N to an open area due West of West Pk. We did have to cross Silver Ck. a couple of times which was interesting with the 5 ft. snowbanks but luckily found some semi-decent snow bridges. At this point the terrain flattens out and opens up. Snowshoeing through this gorgeous winter wonderland basin with scattered trees as we pasted West Pk., off in the distance we saw Little Pecker Pk. and headed right for it. As we got into the upper basin and were underneath LPP and KR 5525 we took a refreshing break. After our break and route analysis, we chose a decent route up to the ridge top we quickly topped us out at a saddle South of 5525. As there is another bump on the ridge to our south that is 40' lower than 5525 we decided to scramble up to that one just in case. The weather at this point was holding steady with good visibility and no precip. and the breeze although cool was refreshing. After topping out on this sub-bump which looked to be at the same elevation as 5525 we turned around and headed North for a fun and enjoyable ridge walk on the syrofoam snow to 5525. As it now was 2 pm we had a short stay as we again walked the ridge toward Little Pecker Peak as it looked inviting. After stopping about 100 yards west of it, we cramponed up and traversed a 40 degree slope we arrived at LPP and accessed it via a snow covered ledge. There were 2 snow patches on it seperated by a 20' 3rd class rock band and after reaching the upper snow patch which was soft granulated snow we turned around 50' below the top. A fun attempt anyways. Being 3 pm now it was time for the trek down and out to the TH. By following our track and not having to stop to scope out creek crossings and occasional map and compass navigation work we were back at the TH around 5:30 pm. What an excellent day.

Ever Upwards

Nice report. I see the name LPP has stuck, originally given by Mike Collins on our trip up there last year. wink.gif
