Here is a good link which explains some of the geology in Washington State. I found it very interesting. http://www.evolvingearth.com/learnearthscience/sciencearticles0501fossilforest.htm

Thanks for sharing that site---I've seen it before when researching stuff on the net and it is a great read! I'm heading back over next Monday again smile.gif MCaver---any of these days around here that are mostly cloudy and 40-60% showers are prime for over there almost all the time. You'll be in sun just east of ellensburg so often! Dead of winter is a lot harder as the inversion that forms typically can put you in worse weather there...the sunny days at home will be foggy over in the columbia basin. Spring is prime-time however! Forget the weather forecasting and just go. I'll haul you over there with me soon....

I've spent some time so far this spring over on the dry side and have enjoyed myself. I'm planning trips to the Dry Falls and Palouse areas this year, but the big one for me just a week off -- a 4 day weekend at the Painted Hills. Looks like I timed it just right for peak wildflowers too! up.gif

Forget the forecasting is right. Simply cheat and take a look out the window from 22,000 miles up and see what it's like right now. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/satellite/1km/Seattle/VIS1SEA.GIF

How does one read this map? It looks like the same color throughout the state.
