All the polar bear articles I've read focused on population gain due to fewer bears being shot. Is seal population static? Are bears, especially sows, in better or worse condition? Best.

Black bears have one of the most varied diets of any wild animal. Panda bears have one of the most specific diets of mammals and will die if they don't get their bamboo. There is some limited evidence that some polar bears in northern Alaska are mating with brown bears (from which they evolved from) and eating some land-based foods (I saw this on a TV show, so no links). We simply don't know if the lack of sea ice to get what they now eat will drive them to extinction or not. Of course the best thing is to not put them to this test. But if the test is to come, only time will tell.

Plants and animals evolve to fit their environment. If they do nt do so quick enough they become extinct. The larger animals are the slower they adapt. That is why we have lots of birds but no dinosaurs. Humans are somewhat of an exception due to our tool making ability. I really doubt humans will ever tolerate large apex peradators in close proximity to large populations of humans and protein crops. Polar Grizz hybrids will not be tolerated south of Prince George or Sitka. IMO

I think it's a bad idea. Completely different ecosystem - with grave consequences to the bears and to the ecosystem they will be introduced into.
Agreed, completely.

One of my very favorite songs. Although that small fact has positively nothing to do with this discussion biggrin.gif Ok, back to the topic at hand....
