Anyone have an REI Catalog from the 70's they can scan in and put on line? I'd like to be able to leaf through it and see some of the tents, stoves, and packs they were selling then... up.gif Eddie Bauer would be neat too...

I've got Eddie Bauer catalogs from the mid-late 1960s as well as 1976 or so. I also have a collection of REI catalogs from around 1973-1980. I've been wanting to scan these for a while but I don't have a scanner. I'll try and get some scanned at work. I also have the No. 2 issue of Backpacker magazine, which is a fun read. My idea has been to scan each entire catalog, not just selected portions.

My short-term memory is not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my short-term memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

I would love to see some of the gear and the advertisments back then. I remember my older brother worked for them in 1986 in Austin.. the store was right down the street from whole foods. I wasnt interested in it at the time.

These are some pics I scanned for an earlier thread and never uploaded. To the amusement of most, I still use my Icelandic Special for all my overnight trips.

The earlier pics are from the '71 catalog, but the pics were virtually the same the next 2 years. A couple more from '71.

By '78 yuppism was in full swing. Also, the catalog was on recycled paper.

The 70's should have been against the law! doh.gif

There weren't as many laws in the 70's. No helmet required to ride a bike, no seatbelt to drive a car, and big hair was legal.

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

I have a 1972 catalog. I'll scan some pages when I get a chance. I still have boots made by Hanwag of Germany. The model is the Rondoy. I bought these boots by mail order by tracing an outline of my foot on paper and sending it to them. Here is the description. "A new high quality rugged mountaineering boot made of sturdy rough-out leather with narrow welt, stiff sole, hinged heel, scree top, and Vibram Montagna sole. 6 lbs. 8 oz. $37.95 I wore these boots for many years and miles in the Eastern Sierra Nevada near Bishop, Calif. When I moved up here I found that they were too stiff for muddy trails and once they got wet inside they were wet (and a lot heavier) for a really long time. Now they hang in my living room, right next to the ice axe and crampons I bought from the same catalog.
