Wowza! I have to echo the praise on "Don't want to leave"! Such even lighting and excellent composition! Colonial is just plastered! I also find the perspective on Pyramid Ridge interesting (Snowfield ascent route). Good stuff!! up.gif Ps. I must also add a word of praise for Dicey's #7. Tazz is right, though I believe her views to be biased hockeygrin.gif

Headin Home and Don't Wanna Leave plus Sourdough 9 are my favs, and, all images are superb! Thank you all for such a treat to share. Is Stetattle Ridge the northward arm (with the beautiful tarns) from Sourdough? Sourdough has the fire lookout, yes? I camped at a number of locations upon this alpine wonderland. Never had the privledge to seek its summit in winter. It is yet even more glorious.

Mark, it's nice of you to have a strategically placed aunt. You guys rock. I love the photos of the high clouds.

Looking at the pictures again, I'm wowwed by Dicey's #7 of the Southern Pickets. The lighting and contrast makes every single peak of the line stand out in great definition.

Just to answer a question we had of what that big three-summit peak was we were looking at to the SW, it is indeed Big Devil. Thanks for the great shot of my butt, Mark. Oh well, it's my best side anyway.

You're welcome! wink.gif I had to get an action shot of the "crux"...the sticky snow made for some nice pinwheels off the ridge. eek.gif

Spectacular!! Love all the photos. cool.gif

Long since I've been amongst majestic peaks nor side mirrored lakes where awe so speaks. Blanketed valleys the dawn awakes and blinking stars to fade. My soul is called to see these things, the Hand of God has made.

Different moods of the mountains on other trips to Sourdough - a great winter ridge trip any time: Sourdough in 2003 - plastered with fresh snow. Shifting veils of mist offered just brief tantalizing glimpses of the cloud-cloaked peaks:

Sourdough in 2005 - So little snow that all the lower slopes were dry. Clear skies drew our gaze to so many peaks showing off around us.

And any time, don't want to leave:

Also, one imortant route note. The winter route does not follow the summer trail to the lookout. The summer trail begins on Stetattle Ridge, but then about 4000 feet traverses east across a large avalanche slope to the lookout, a dangerous route in winter. The better winter route does exactly what Dicey described - leave the trail circa 3800-4000 feet and continue directly up the ridge crest northward to the high points on Stetattle Ridge.

Sourdough Spectacular
Matt...these are incredible photos...I hate to use that over-worked word, but it does apply. You lucky guy....on the other hand, you already have been and returned to mix with us earthlings. Bet you miss the glories of "being there"!
