That account really is something special.
I'm glad you folks are still willing to feed us young and ambitous. We keep the trailless areas trealless be assured.
I wonder just as much about your equipment, food, navigation methods and Robert as much as I wonder about the route, reasoning and season of travel. Please stay around and tell us more about your other traverses sometime.
Thanks and keep us updated of your writing.

Great story! Thanks for posting it!
Our plan is coming together. Sounds like the adventure we are looking for. We probably won't head over to the Chimney/Crystal Peak area but will take crampons and rope. Hope to stick to fairly easy terrain and game trails to take us over to Muncaster Basin from Low Divide. We are looking forward to exploring this area.

Burke Range crossing this Labor Day weekend....please keep close watch on weather forecast....snow level dropping to 5000' on Saturday, slow warming trend on Sunday-Monday. We don't want anyone getting trapped in a blizzard and shacking-up in a tiny tent weighted down by piling up snow.

per conversations i've been having with Trailhead (paul) its mostly the fog/cloudshroud that would keep us in, not the rain.
Dane however, is probably not as phased by the fog.

Thanks for the heads up and your concern. We were pinned down by that crap for a day and half at Dodwell-Rixon Pass last Labor Day weekend. We have a bailout plan, lots of time, "antifreeze", and a couple of good books. We should be A-OK.

I got trapped under a tarp and a nice goose down bag in early August on the ridge line that ends at Icicle Ridge...way back in my heyday of traveling light (some refer to that as the 1970's); I carried a thick volume of Lincoln or some historical novel by Al Gore's cousin or uncle (Gore Vidal) and read the thing through in mist and rain and snowfall for 3 days. Since I was half way on trip, a bail-out was impossible and when the weather cleared, a wonderful trip ensued. I think the weather event made the trip ever so much more memorable and, long(er). This was the trip I found a nice view of Mount Stuart, climbed a huge boulder to get the shots and noticed wiggling around the boulder, all around it...to discover it was a rattlesnake dormitory. So, you see, it did dry out and the sun did shine. Good luck in the high country and we all look forward to your photos essay!

When I did the Pyrites, over Chimney, along the ridge to word Crystal, we found some stuff that looked like crash remains above Crystal Lake. A buddy that did from Crystal to Chiney and back one day found the remains of a small survival rifle.
This was many, Many years ago.
I don't really want to do the section from Chimney to Crysatl Lakr again..(well, really only maybe a mile or less of bad stuff)
