My guess is that Bessemer comes from an old steel making process. We skied up Bessemer (actually walked with skis on our back for all but the last couple hundred yards) and it was red like iron ore. My guess is that someone had an iron ore claime up there once. There were such claims on Denny and Kirkland was founded as Pittsburgh of the west. PTL it never came true.
