I had planned a hike with Karen today, but she had to reschedule. I signed up for a club hike to Dungeness Spit instead. (I still would have rather hiked with Karen! )
This hike was a first for me. On the long drive to Sequim I saw rain, then sleet, then snow... Once we started out, I experienced what a "convergence zone" means! Wind coming North from Hood Canal did battle with wind coming South from the ocean, leaving moderate (but windy!) conditions for most of the hike.

Dungeness Lighthouse
Can you spot the real duck?
Hurricane Ridge in the distance
Wind power on the left, wave power on the right!
This was a great trip, and I'll have to plan on a spare week to go back and be a lighthouse keeper!
I stopped by Sequim Bay and Fort Flagler State Parks before heading home -- the latter would make a good daytrip in the summer.
Fort Flagler and Marrowstone Island is a great day trip destination anytime. I love the little general store on Marrowstone Island. And you can't beat the Chimacum Cafe on the way back.
Nope, no birds other than gulls, the ducks in the pond, and some little flitty things that were hanging out on the inside beach. I was also hoping to see some marine life. But it was wicked windy -- I imagine all the critters were hunkered down somewhere. Good excuse for a return trip!
i did this last Feb w/Ed and LOVED it....he was recovering from pneumonia and it was the one and only time i outpaced him thanks for the reminder....think i'll go ago
