The forecast was for am rain on Saturday then raining Sunday morning. We took off from Spokane at 12:30 and left the TH at 4. There's a nice boot track from the upper parking area which follows the left side of the stream all the way up past Source Lake. From there the path leads steeply up to Great Scott then the final steep snow slope over Pineapple pass. The snow is in excellent condition for kicking steps. The top of the pass is blocked by a huge hunk of snow that we had to climb over. We arrived at the base of the route at 6:15. It drizzled on us the whole way in then turned to strong winds and snow at the base of the climb. Wasn't long before the digits started freezing and the rock gathered a nice layer of wet ick. We took a vote then did a double rope rap back to the snow field and arrived back at the truck just after dark. So much for our fantastic bivy on top. Sure beat yard work though Stopped for burgers on the way home and surprised the wife and her boyfriend at 2 am.
I really hope that comment about the wife is a joke.... that is no fun!
