the american dental assoc climb of the year 5-10-2007
the tooth is in fine shape - snow where you want it and bare rock on the route. only some inconsequential patches to deal with during the climb. my buddy ski/skinned up and down and climbed in rock shoes on the route. there was snow from the upper alpental parking lot to the base of the climb. i used crampons for the descent west from pineapple pass, my buddy did not use crampons at all. this was my 5th time flossing the tooth. the previous times i had never had the pleasure of the catwalk. this time(even mid-week) there was a party of five ahead of us and our other rope team had someone doing there first lead, so we had a lot of extra time on our hands. after my buddy lead up to the top via the flakes, he rapped down and we climbed to the top via the catwalk. i'd heard varying stories about its difficulty. i found it to be fairly easy climbing - 6-12" ledge for feet and little indentations for hands. pretty fun.
climbing was fun, the skiing fun. everyone had a great day in the sun :>)
