To Hell With Low Tides, Today, Jan. 23, at 7:05 am = a 9.7 or something at Port Townsend which is one of the highest Everett tides I've seen. Very nice outing putting canoe in at Langus Riverfront, paddling upriver(dead slack) then cruising through the sloughs and channels to Jackknife Bridge on Spencer Island. Drink some coffee. Watch ducks. Wait. Wait. Haul buns back to car. Picked up many flotsam duck decoys too for my kids at school who hunt. Tom

To Hell With Low Tides
Highest tides occur around here in winter with very low barometer and strong westerlies. When we lived on the water there was a rock in front of the cabin which made a very nice tide gauge. I only saw it buried 3-4 times in 15 years.

Quark, It was 7:05 am for gosh sakes! Dark! But, Everett Public Works guys were out in force monitoring the height of the surge at Jackknife Bridge on Spencer Island and other low spots near the sewage treatment plant. Tom

Lowest minus tide is tomorrow at 1:41pm for the Seattle area. Get out your rubber boots and head down to the beaches to explore undersea life! biggrin.gif

Looking for advise on where, near Seattle, to bring some children to explore the shore during the minus tide tomorrow (Wednesday). All comments, suggestions and warnings greatly appreciated. Are there any education programs associated with these events that we could join?....thank you....hermes

We've gone over to West Seattle in the past. Specifically Beach Dr. at Comorant Park and Charles Richey Viewpoint. When we were there last year on a nice sunny weekend a few naturalists were on hand talking with people and handing out information. It was pretty nice.

I just got back from the Marina Park in Edmonds. It was wonderful. It is the perfect place for both kids and dogs. I got there just about 12:30pm when the tide was fully out and it was so much fun watching the dogs running. There is a off-leash dog park which normally attracts lots of dog owners but today with the large open tide area - it was great. There were also several groups of kids from school or day care. As I was leaving, the beach ranger showed up and was finding crabs and other great items. Edmonds has an excellent Discovery Program. You will usually find the ranger out on minus tide days somewhere between Bracketts Landing (Ferry Dock) and the Marina Park at the south end of the Marina where the old Union Oil dock used to be. That has all been removed so it is perfect for beachcombing on minus tide days.
