Has anyone ever been a reporter for this site? Looks cool, but I am a little suspicious. Is there a catch? http://www.localhikes.com/

I'm with you - a little suspicious. I like the idea of free TOPO software, tho. That alone makes me think I want to sign up.

Strange they don't have anything for Seattle yet, considering how many hikes there are near here.

I've gotten at least 2 emails from them asking me to be a "trip reporter". Dunno if I wanna tell about my hikes to the general public (my website is a whole other story. There isn't a link to it off of a major outdoor publication) Maybe I should try and contact some of the existing reporters and ask what they think? I kind of like the idea of the site, but I'm a pretty serious LNT'er. Not everyone would respect my *special places* as much...

That's what it looks like (see my thread over there). Seems like a bunch of us "regulars" have gotten that email. eek.gif I'm tempted, but skeptical about it, especially that they post your name with the report. I prefer some annonimity. confused.gif

Me too.
Same here... I've got one of those e-mails once, although not very recently. I think they did get addresses from the backpacker.com Forums (seeing as I'm a regular over there as well...)

yes, I am suspicious of that as well (see the thread in that forum) especially since their site is now posted on the backpacker site. eek.gif the site looks kinda cool, but I don't think I like their methods of recruitment. shakehead.gif
